How to Choose a Google Ads Agency in Dubai (and What They Should Show You)

You cannot tell a good Google Ads agency from a bad one by looking. Both show you the same dashboard, the same graphs trending upward, the same confident explanation of strategy.

But there is one question that separates them in about four seconds, and most Dubai businesses never think to ask it.

“Will I own the Google Ads account, with full admin access, at all times?”

Watch what happens next. A legitimate agency says yes immediately. A bad one starts explaining why their setup is different.

Here is what else to ask, what they should be able to show you, and the specific answers that should end the conversation.

Ask This First: Who Owns the Account?

Your Account, Your Admin Access, Always

This is the question to lead with, ahead of strategy, case studies or reporting. A legitimate agency answers yes without hesitation.

There is nothing wrong with an agency managing your account. There is something very wrong with an agency owning it.

What Happens to Your History If You Leave

This is why it matters, and it is not obvious until it happens to you.

Google Ads accounts accumulate value beyond the campaigns currently running. Conversion tracking configured over months. Audience lists built from real visitors. Negative keywords added one at a time across years of spend. Historical performance data that informs every bidding decision.

If an agency runs campaigns in their own manager account without giving you direct ownership, that history disappears when you leave.

You do not simply lose an account. You lose the education your budget paid for, and your next agency starts from zero, on your money, relearning what you already bought.

The MCC Trap

An agency manager account, or MCC, is a normal tool. Agencies use them to manage many clients, and that is entirely legitimate when your account sits inside their MCC while remaining yours.

The problem is the arrangement where the account was created by the agency, under the agency, and you have never had admin access. Ask specifically: was this account created under my ownership, or theirs?

What Should an Agency Show You Before You Sign?

Direct answer: a real account, a plan for yours, and clients you can actually call.

Real Accounts, Not Screenshots

Ask to see a live account during a screen share, not slides. Numbers can be edited in an image. A live interface is considerably harder to fake, and how they navigate it tells you how often they are actually in one.

Client confidentiality is a fair reason to blur names. It is not a reason to refuse showing you an account at all.

Pay attention to the account they choose to show you. If it is a business several times your size, ask whether they have run anything at your budget. Managing 200,000 dirhams a month and managing 8,000 are genuinely different jobs, and the tactics that work at one scale often do not transfer to the other.

How They Would Structure Your Campaigns

Before signing, they should be able to sketch how they would approach your business specifically. Which campaign types, roughly which themes, what they would test first.

If the answer stays generic across every industry, you are hearing a script. Good agencies explain their approach clearly in the first conversation rather than after a contract.

Two Clients You Can Call

Not testimonials on a website. Two current clients, ideally one in a comparable business, who will take a phone call.

Ask those clients one specific thing: what happens when results dip. Every account has a bad month. How an agency behaves during it is the entire relationship.

Who Actually Runs the Account

Ask who does the day to day work and whether any of it is outsourced. The person selling to you is frequently not the person in your account, and the gap between them can be considerable.

There is nothing wrong with a specialist team. There is something wrong with discovering after signing that your account is managed by someone you have never spoken to.

The Reporting Test

Impressions and Clicks Are Not Results

Reports built on impressions and clicks with no connection to revenue or pipeline are a red flag.

Impressions cost you nothing and mean nothing. Clicks cost you money and still mean little on their own. What matters is how many enquiries arrived, what each one cost, and how many turned into business.

Cost Per Lead, or It Is Decoration

A useful monthly report answers four questions. How much did we spend. How many leads did that produce. What did each one cost. What changed in the account this month.

That last one gets skipped constantly. A report showing only numbers, with no record of what was actually done, gives you no way to judge whether anyone worked on your account at all.

Worth knowing: conversion numbers are only as trustworthy as the tracking behind them. Plenty of UAE accounts report conversions that are really form page views, or count the same enquiry three times. Ask how conversions are defined and when tracking was last verified, because every optimisation decision rests on that answer being correct.

Ask to See a Sample Report

Request an example before signing. If it is three pages of graphs with no commentary, that is your future every month.

How Should Google Ads Management Be Priced?

Direct answer: usually a flat monthly fee or a percentage of spend, and the two create very different incentives.

Flat Fee vs Percentage of Spend

A flat management fee means you pay the same whether you spend 5,000 or 50,000 dirhams a month. Simple, predictable, and the agency has no financial interest in your budget growing.

Percentage of spend is common in this market. It is also worth understanding clearly: it creates a conflict of interest, because the agency earns more when you spend more, regardless of whether results improved.

That does not make it dishonest. Plenty of good agencies work this way. It does mean you should agree in advance how a proposed budget increase gets justified.

Transparency Is the Real Signal

Good agencies explain pricing clearly in the first conversation. If it takes three sales calls to learn what you will pay, that is information about how they operate.

Red Flags That End the Conversation

Guaranteed results. No legitimate agency can guarantee a lead count or return on ad spend, because results depend on your market and competitors, not only on their effort.

“Our methodology prevents account access.” There is no intellectual property that requires hiding your own account from you. This is a dealbreaker rather than a discussion.

No questions about your business. An agency that never asked your margins, your average deal value or what a good lead looks like is optimising for clicks. Those are not the same as customers. Our post on choosing a web design company makes the same point, and it is the same underlying test.

Reports you cannot understand. Complexity is sometimes used to obscure rather than inform.

Pressure to sign immediately. Discounts expiring today are a sales technique, not a commercial reality. A good agency is comfortable with you taking a week.

What You Should Walk Away With

If the relationship ends, agree upfront that you keep the account itself, the conversion configurations, the audience lists and any scripts running in it.

Put it in writing before you start. It is a straightforward conversation at the beginning and an unpleasant one at the end. Clear expectations set early prevent most agency disputes.

The Bottom Line

Portfolios prove nothing. Every agency shows its best month, and dashboards look identical whether the account is well run or neglected.

Ask who owns the account. Ask what the monthly report contains. Ask to call two clients. Ask how they get paid. Those four answers are hard to fake and they predict the relationship better than any pitch.
